IMMINENT ARRIVAL OF EMMANUEL

December 21 2025 —

How long will we have to wait and watch for Jesus to return? We do not know. Jesus said he would return soon. However, the definition of “soon” for the One who has no beginning or end will naturally differ from ours.

No one knew when Jesus would come the first time. And then suddenly He did come! No, they didn’t know when He would come, but they did know a number of things about His coming—who He would be and what He would do, how He would be God Himself and true man at the same time. He would be the son of David and He would be God with us. Isaiah called Him “Emmanuel” which means “God with us” already 700 years before He was born.

Who is with us when Jesus is with us? God Himself. God became a human being in a special way, becoming truly human but remaining God. God is still with us. We encounter Him in a special way when we gather with two or three others in worship. He is so near to us that the thrill of anticipation is almost unbearable. Let it wash over you as you celebrate Christmas this week.
