You and I recognize our inability to defend myself against spiritual enemies. They are just too powerful—the devil, the world, and our flesh.
The world is against us, still we foolishly look for ways to imitate it. We try to master our own sinful flesh, but it just doesn’t work. We can’t help come to the same conclusion as Saint Paul: That our own desires are at war against our souls. And when it comes to the devil, we fall into temptation again and again. On top of all that, our own impending deaths prove that we have sinned.
If we’ve realized all that, then we realize that what we really need is a champion. God the Father realized it too. And so He sent His own, only-begotten Son to be your Savior and mine. Through the obedience of the Son of God in our place, we have have victory over our great spiritual enemies. Jesus, our Champion, took on the devil and beat him!
