The Church God Wants: A Church That Really Knows Jesus

In our Epistle Lesson this Sunday, St. Paul declares, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Confessing our faith in Jesus is central to what The Church God Wants does. We confess as individuals, but we also confess together.

Getting our confession of Jesus “right” is also essential. Jesus asked Peter “Who do you say I am” and Peter “got it right” in his answer: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

God Himself defined who He is to Moses. He explained His Hebrew Name, “The Lord” (YHWH) as the God of perfect justice and perfect mercy—the God of Law and Gospel.

God wants a church that really knows Jesus. May we be just such a church.
