The Christian Finds Rest in Jesus

Sunday, July 9, 2023 —

Ask any 10 people to define “Christian” and you may well get ten different answers. Much better to let the Bible define the world. In our current series, “Define: Christian” our Scripture readings give us God’s definition of who and what a Christian really is and what Christians do. We don’t live up to the definition. When we don’t we run to Jesus for forgiveness. At it’s core, that’s what a Christian is—someone who runs to Christ for forgiveness precisely because they have failed to live like the Christian they are!

Then, as we receive the mercy of Christ, His grace moves us to strive with all our being to better fit Christ’s beautiful definition, doing all the things Jesus says that Christians do. This week we learn from our readings that Christians find rest for their souls in Jesus through the Gospel, which ultimately leads to eternal rest.
