The Lord’s Prayer

  1. Prayer is a wonderful privilege of believers in Jesus, who have direct access to God through the forgiveness of sins. God invites believers to pray to him continually and in every place. He promises to hear and answer their prayers in keeping with his will, which is always for their good, even when they as sinful human beings may not see the overall benefit at the time.
  2. It is proper to give thanks to God and to pray for the needs of ourselves and other living people. Especially it is good to pray for spiritual blessings. According to the Bible, our prayers should not be addressed to angels, saints, dead people, the sun, the moon, stars, mountains, trees, or idols, but only to the triune God. Prayer is not a means of grace, but it is a response that arises from a heart of faith.
