These past few months have been a very trying time for our nation and the world. The coronavirus has had millions of people sheltering in place by order of local, state, and federal governments. “We have to flatten the curve” became the battle cry. Sadly, many have lost their ability to earn money; money needed to feed their families, money needed to pay the utility bills, money needed to pay the rent or make a mortgage payment. Many are worried and concerned for the future. During these trying times it may be hard for some to hear that “God is in control” or that “It is God that directs our footsteps.”
But it is true! God often uses difficult circumstances to draw people to himself so they can learn to trust him and spend eternal life with Him in heaven. Jesus instructs us, “For this reason I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life, more than food and the body more that clothes? Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds the them…So do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’…or ‘What will we wear?’ … Certainly your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God…” (Mat 6:25-33 selected verses)
This is God’s higher purpose; to call you to come to faith in Jesus Christ, His Son and enjoy the fruits of faith both here in this world and in heaven when He calls you home to be with Him. God loves you so much that He sent His One and Only Son into this world so that He could live the perfect life God expects of us and to die on the cross as payment for our sins and worries. Jesus did just that! After His death on the cross, He was placed in a grave only to rise again from the dead three days later. His rising to life ensures us that everything God promises us in the Bible is indeed true. Faith in Jesus’ life, death and resurrection is the only way to heaven.
Jesus taught us this truth, “I am the Way and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (Joh 14:6).
“A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
